As mentioned in the previous article, there will be Young Eagle rides at the Bedford
Airport Day, June 25.
EAA Chapter 400 will be providing these rides. There are
numerous Boy Scouts and Civil Air Patrol groups present, so we will need all hands
on deck. Anyone willing to fly and/or help out on the ground will be greatly
appreciated!

Also for the Bedford Airport, Chapter 400 would like to have a small display present.
Anyone willing to help arrange and/or man the display will be valued.

Anyone willing to help in any way for the event on June 25, please contact one of
our officers! Thank you!

EAA Chapter 400 lost long time member John Leitis on June 4, 2011. Many of us
remember him flying around in his Pober Pixie and we also appreciated his expertise
and advice having served as an EAA Technical Counselor. He will be missed. His
obituary, from the Altoona Mirror, is copied below:

M. John Leitis, 80, Roaring Spring, died Saturday morning at Cambria Care Center,
Ebensburg, following an extended illness.

He was born in Riga, Latvia, son of the late Alexanders and Martha Leitis. He
married Carol Adams on Dec. 22, 1956, in Roaring Spring.

He is survived by his wife of Roaring Spring; a son, Alex F. Leitis of Martinsburg;
and a daughter, Tammie J. Leitis-Holsinger of Roaring Spring.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Gunard Leitis.

John was a graduate of Roaring Spring High School. He retired as production
superintendent of engineering from Roaring Spring Blank Book Co. in 2001 after
42 years of service.

He was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Roaring Spring, and also a
member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the American Models
Association and the Altoona Blair County Photographic Society. John had served
as a Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol, Squadron 1503, Altoona Blair County
Airport and was a former member of the Friendship Volunteer Fire Department,
Roaring Spring, and the Roaring Spring Lions Club.

John enjoyed flying, and had built and flew his own Pober-Pixie airplane.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011, in the Todd
T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc. www.thompsonfh.com
), Roaring Spring, where
a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, officiated by
Pastor Linda Banaszak.

Interment will be made at Greenlawn Cemetery, Roaring Spring.

Contributions in John's memory may be given to the American Stroke Association.”
