June's
Young Eagles event didn't look too promising at first, but as the day wore on,
the weather improved and we ended with a successful day! I believe the final count of Young Eagles
flown was 35. Thanks to all the ground
crews, pilots, and those that helped to setup/ takedown!

The
annual Sentimental Journey in Lock Haven turned out to be another wonderful
fly-in. Your editor had a chance to
visit the flight line Friday afternoon and, as usual, I managed to get lost in
the sea of yellow. I believe the spot
landing contest was the day before, but I did get to witness the bomb drop
competition. The pink Champ, although
very pink, sure did look nice with the door off trying very hard to hit the
target. When I did clear the flight line and made my way to the ice cream
stand, I had to be careful who I bumped into.
I talked with Denny and Barb Beecher, Dave Liebegott, and even Hugo
Bartel while he was BS-ing with some fine folks at the parts tent. I understand there had been an immaculate
Champ on the field, with original flocked interior and all, but it had departed
before I arrived; I'll look for it at the Aeronca fly-in this month. Dan Speck reported and enjoyable trip earlier
in the week as well. If you didn't make
the trip this year, mark your calendars for next June, it's well worth it!

Final
thoughts…
“Hello,
is this the Sheriff’s office?”
“Why,
yes it is, what can I do for you?”
“I’m
calling about my neighbor, Virgil Smith…I think he’s hiding drugs out back with
his firewood.”
“Thank
you very much for the call sir.”
The
next day, twelve deputies descend on Virgil’s house. They searched high and low for the
drugs. The firewood was found, but no
drugs. They chopped the firewood to see
if the logs were hollow. Still no
drugs. Finally, after a long day, they
left…disgusted.
Later
that night…
“Hey
Virg, this is Floyd. Did the sheriff
come today?”
“Yeah?”
“Did
they chop your firewood?”
“Yep!”
“Happy
Birthday buddy!”
