Our next monthly meeting will be held at Baker-Sell Field on Friday, August 20. This will be our model airplane night. Plan to meet around 7 pm. We should have several folks from the local R/C club on hand and, weather permitting, we will fly until dark.

If you’re not sure how to get to Baker-Sell Field, it’s located 1 mile north of Woodbury on Rt. 36. If we have inclement weather, we will meet at the Altoona airport. If in doubt, call Mark Sell at 327-5490.

July minutes…

Several fly-in dates were discussed.

It was mentioned that Degol Aviation has been awarded the FBO contract for the Altoona/Blair County Airport.

A second Young Eagles event for the year was planned for October 2.

Many thanks are due to member Paul Nuss for sharing with us pictures from his recent trip to Germany. It was very interesting to see aviation from a different perspective. Thank You Paul!

The EAA is remodeling the former entrance to the flight line at AirVenture, known as the “Brown Arch.” In doing this, they are asking EAA members and chapters to purchase 2’ x 2’ inscribed bricks. It was previously suggested that our Chapter 400 purchase a brick in honor of dedicated members John Leitis and Herb Rutter. Any members interested in doing this, please attend the next meeting as we will be discussing this further.

FLY-IN ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

There will be a fly-in/ drive-in picnic held at Sell’s airstrip on September 11, 2010 and Chapter 400 is invited. We will plan to eat around 1:00pm but early arrivals and hangar flying are always welcome. Please bring a covered dish, chairs, and a friend. Roast beef sandwiches will be provided.

Also note that Baker-Sell field is a private airstrip and all fly-ins are at your own risk. The field is located 1 mile north of Woodbury, along Rt. 36.

Due to the success of our June Young Eagles event, we have decided to have a repeat event this fall. The date will be Saturday, October 2. We had 44 Young Eagles registered from the June event. Thank you to all who helped out!
